What began as a courageous vision transformed into a milestone moment. Hosted by 9Miles Project, the inaugural 100Wave Challenge didn’t just meet expectations—it surpassed them in the most beautiful way. With a goal of raising R100,000, we were blessed to reach over an incredible R170,000 in support of surf therapy, education, and mentorship programmes for vulnerable youth.

The shoreline was filled with laughter, movement, and meaningful connection as the community came together for a day of fun and purpose. Live music echoed across the sand thanks to Keagan Curtis Fish, while families and young ones enjoyed sandcastle building, beach volleyball, and an interactive art station that stirred creativity and imagination.

The Little Optimist Trust brought unforgettable experiences to the tidal pool by leading the sailing sessions, giving many children their first taste of adventure on the water. Our very own Programmes Manager, Danielle, led the powerful rhythms of the djembe drumming circle, creating a heartbeat of unity that carried through the day. A heartfelt thank you to SUP Cape Town for providing the inflatable SUPs, and to Protect the West Coast for supporting our eco-efforts with recyclable beach cleanup bags.

We’re deeply grateful to PME for sponsoring 30 colouring books and pencil sets, which helped bring our art station to life—and to Gunnar Oberhosel, Master Freediver, for guiding the snorkelling sessions and inspiring a sense of awe and respect for the ocean. A huge thank you to the vibrant Surf NexGen surf coaches, who brought incredible energy while helping our beginner participants catch their waves, and to Surf4Life for generously lending us the rash vests for the surfathon.

From refreshing sips to hearty bites, our incredible food and drink sponsors kept everyone fuelled and smiling throughout the day. Wildwood brought a buzz of energy with their sparkling yerba maté—light, revitalising, and a hit among those needing a natural pick-me-up. Manzi and Aquabella ensured we stayed hydrated with clean, cool water that truly refreshed after hours in the sun. A big thank you to Lekker Kalk Bay for their generous R1000 donation, which helped provide drinks for both guests and participants. Spar Weltevreden delighted the kids with Jive cooldrinks, while Vida e Caffè’s coffee and treats were a favourite among early risers and volunteers.

There was no shortage of flavour or love in the food shared. Wajid’s Chicken Tikka and Take-Aways brought the heat with their tasty akni. The Flying Pan wowed our team with sesame chicken and sticky rice salad, crisps, and decadent brownies—every bite was savoured. Karen, one of our devoted board members, crafted six generous platters of finger foods that vanished quickly, while Kay’s Kitchen added colourful fruit platters that guests couldn’t stop talking about. Sunni Stores, a trusted name in Strandfontein, once again showed up for the community with heartfelt contributions. Pizza Inn delivered crowd-pleasing slices, Everyday We Waffling brought the sweet treats for the kids, and Jill’s Fruits rounded things off with nourishing, juicy portions.

The joy was visible on every face—whether sipping, snacking, or sharing a meal. Thank you to each of our sponsors for not just feeding bellies but uplifting the entire experience with your generosity.

Participants in the 100Wave Challenge left with more than just unforgettable memories—they took home goodie bags filled with items that reflect the heart of the event: wellness, sustainability, and community upliftment.

Our custom tote bags were generously sponsored by GONE. and Patagonia—two brands deeply rooted in conscious living and environmental stewardship. Their support aligns beautifully with the 9Miles Project’s mission to nurture not only young people but also the world they live in.

Back 2 Nature contributed their all-natural Active Zinc Sunscreen, helping protect our surfers while encouraging a deeper respect for the planet through eco-friendly, ocean-safe products.

To keep energy levels high, PVM Nutritional Sciences provided their nutrient-rich energy bars—perfect for athletes and surfers alike, reinforcing our commitment to healthy, active lifestyles for youth and adults in our programmes.

Brother Bees added a sweet and nourishing touch with their locally sourced honey, a product that speaks to the power of collaboration and supporting small, sustainable businesses—something we deeply value at 9Miles.

And finally, SaltWatr Electrolytes powered by Wazoogles offered a plant-based hydration solution to replenish and revive, in line with our focus on health, balance, and natural performance.

These gifts weren’t just takeaways—they were tokens of the values that shaped the 100Wave Challenge: care for self, others, and the environment.

A massive thanks to Strandfontein Community Police Forum, Law Enforcement, Strandfontein Life Saving Club, NSRI, Scorpion Security, and our dedicated paramedic Michael van Dieman and safety officer Michelle Felix for keeping everyone safe and sound throughout the day.

Thanks to our branding and marketing dream team—PostNet, Vic Bay Apparel, Orakel SA, and Brendan Naidoo—everything from shirts to signage was smooth, stylish, and on point.

AND last but not least shoutout to our generous prize sponsors:

Radisson RED, Karma, Kingdom Longboards, Empire Café, Harvest Cafe, Acrobranch Constantia, GOLD Restaurant, Spyced Restaurant, Atlantic Surf Collective, Surf Lab, Two Oceans Aquarium, Lifestyle Surf Shop, Cape Town Tandem Paragliding, Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, Bing’s Bru, Winnie Roos Sh’zen Consultant, Sporting Elements and Flare.

You helped us celebrate in true 9Miles style.

To AVG Photography (Alan Van Gysen), Head in the Clouds (Brad & Gareth), and Colin Fitch Photography—your lenses captured not just the action, but the soul of the day.

“Sometimes you have to take on a challenge, in order for others to overcome their challenges and limitations… and that is exactly what this was all about.”
— Sher’Neil Savel, Co-Founder

From every wave surfed to every hand lifted in support, 100Wave Challenge proved one powerful truth: when a community comes together with heart and purpose, anything is possible.

The stoke still lingers—and we’re already dreaming of 100Wave Challenge 2026.

Thank you for paddling with us. See you on the next wave.
