"Relaunching Instinct in my hometown where I started it and incorporating revenue from every sale to empower underprivileged students is a dream come true. Business can solve big social problems but if I can just help with one small problem, the life trajectory of a student, then my mission will be fulfilled."
Faieq’s Story
Faieq was one of the first students who started at 9Miles in 2013. He struggled with learning and dropped out of school at a young age. He however stayed in the programmes and through 9Miles’ support is now an internationally accredited surf coach, surfboard repair technician, has his driver’s licence, and is currently becoming an accredited PADI diver as well as a board shaper while in permanent employment.
Faieq has become an agent of change in his community by helping other youth off the street and teaching them surfboard repair skills. He has received advanced First Aid training and is the designated First Aider in his community – having saved some lives during emergencies. He has empowered many girls with surf therapy, and by preparing them for surf competitions – taking some to regional and national competitions.
Faieq represents the fullness of the 9Miles journey – 10 years of commitment towards seeing youth achieve economic independence and become agents of change through sport.
He is a true success story which furthers our belief that everyone is perfect for their purpose!
