One of the most fun, unique and heartfelt events in aid of charity is done and dusted…

The Great Optimist Race, which formed part of the Cape Town International Boat Show, was an exciting day filled with thrills and spills. Our Skipper, Chad Smith, put in an amazing effort and finished 14th out of 41 sailors! We are so proud of him.

There was great excitement on the day as supporters gathered to cheer on their teams! In addition to medical survivors and novices, there were also many well-known personalities like Pippa Hudson, Riaan Manser, Majozi and Craig Lucas sailing for their respective charities.

A pretty windless day resulted in many having to paddle and use creative means to get across the finish line. Our goodwill ambassador, Matt Bromley’s strength and big wave paddling arm helped him to finish second – Well done Matt!

The great winners of the day were all the charities who will benefit from the money raised for the Little Optimist Foundation – over R200k at last count.

It was so exciting for us to be involved in this event and we are grateful to Greg Bertish and The Little Optimist team for giving us this opportunity. A special thanks also goes to Victron Energy for sponsoring our boat!

Thank you Greg for also always including our children at every event – we are grateful that they’ve been exposed to sailing therapy and that we may have some budding sailors in our midst…
